Popular, or contemporary music, is what I enjoy playing now, along with the occasional classical piece.
If you want to learn something besides “Mary Had A Little Lamb” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” or some other nursery rhyme music, then this is the book of music you (might) enjoy.
I’ve been working from a book from Hal – Leonoard publishing called First 50 Popular Songs You Should Play On The Piano.
It’s under the EASY PIANO category. This book is perfect, even for more advanced players, because the chord names are all included, and though they be only “A” or “G” or “Gm” or “D7/F#” you can really work with this.
Most of the songs are arranged in C major. So you learn a few chords that work with the C major scale… and you sprinkle them in.
I also add notes, and write them on the staff lines in the book, to richen the base, or add flavor to the treble. It’s like cooking. A little spice can really invigorate a meal… well, adding notes can liven up a piece real nice like.
The book is available from Amazon. Just search for the name and you’ll see it pop up. If you aren’t a fan of Amazon, you order the book direct from the publisher.
My use of music form this book falls under fair use, and since I use it for teaching, I am not liable under copyright law for use of the music on my YouTube channel. There’s a whole legal thing about fair use you can read if you feel like it.
